CENTRAL CORRIDOR TRANSIT STUDY
Utah County, Utah

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and Mountainland Association of Governments (MAG) selected Horrocks to develop and evaluate transit alternatives on a selection of north-south corridors in Utah County, mainly along US-89. The regional project has included many partners, such as the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) and the Cities of Provo, Orem, Lindon, Pleasant Grove, American Fork, Lehi, and Vineyard. This project utilizes our firm’s multidisciplinary workforce, bringing professional engineers, regional planners, transportation modelers, Computer-Aided-Design and Drafting (CADD)/Geographic Information System (GIS) operators, financial analysts, and public involvement specialists together to provide successful solutions for future transit demands. The goals of the project include:

-
Engaging the community and analyzing technical data to establish goals and define the Purpose and Need for a transit project in the central corridor of Utah County
-
Educating the public on choices for a transit project and further project development
-
Screening alternatives for alignment-against-evaluation criteria with consideration of environmental impacts, transit technology, operations, and the regional transit system
-
Understanding the financial possibilities and constraints of funding a transit project in the study area
-
Determining a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) per the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) requirements
-
Ensuring future compatibility of pavement rehabilitation and bridge replacements with planned projects in the vicinity
SOUTH VALLEY TRANSIT STUDY
South Utah County, Utah

UTA is studying the possibility of extending high-capacity transit to the south end of Utah County. By 2050, Utah County is expected to nearly double in population, adding 660,000 more people and surpassing 1.3 million people total. The purpose of the study is to evaluate and develop an LPA for future transportation corridors that would meet local needs. The LPA will identify transit alignment (corridor and locations to be served) and the transit mode (e.g., commuter rail, light rail, bus rapid transit, express bus, etc.). Horrocks is providing stakeholder facilitation and public involvement services to support the following project objectives:

-
Establish the project context and determine the Purpose and Need for a transit project in the South Valley region
-
Identify a range of alternatives for transit options to best suit the needs of users within the study area
-
Perform both initial and detailed alternative screening for the project areas and develop an implementation plan
URBAN AREA HIGHWAY GRID STUDY
Utah County, Utah

The Urban Area Highway Grid Study will evaluate benefits and challenges of updating the regional highway system in Utah County to a Metropolitan Grid-Based Network. The MAG selected Horrocks to conduct the study, including the creation of infographics, videos, and a website that can be used by the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and municipal staff to involve, engage, and educate stakeholders and the public of the benefits of a highway grid network. This study is focused primarily on the benefits and applications of gridded highway networks and identifying best practices for the following:

-
Spacing roadways, bike lanes, transit and pedestrian walkways
-
Access management standards
-
Cross-sections by area type
-
Conversions from non-gridded to gridded networks
